A Night of Disappointments

I'm a numbskull. I set my VCR to tape Supernatural but didn't put it on the right channel! Thus I only got to watch the last 15 minutes of the episode once I returned home from looking at Manhattan's Christmas window displays.

I am so far from impressed. The only Berdorf Goodman windows I really liked along Fifth Avenue, and these are supposed to be their bigtime show windows, were two variations on a concept they used five years ago (" Time" I think this close-up is far prettier.). They used a more retro style of mannequin with very beige faces that in some cases turned out downright ugly and very simple display concepts, without anything like the usual level of details. I kind of liked Holidays on Ice: Valentine's Day, which comes closer to the usual Bergdorf Christmas style, but didn't get decent shots due to high wind and all the other people around me also shooting photos. April Fool's Day is cute in person, but an upside-down image is much less impressive in a photo. The side windows were rather generic winter scenes, not as cool as their usual Christmas side windows... yet still better than Fifth Avenue.

Bloomingdale's just has windows of giant gift boxes. Lord & Taylor is more meh than usual. Chanel has a simple starfield background and really sloppy mannequin hair. Is it really up to Saks Fifth Avenue to save Christmas? (Coming Monday.)
