Watching Anna Karenina (2012), I smiled to see an actress I enjoyed in The Borgias and an actor from Da Vinci's Demons in brief roles. I guess the business thinks they have the looks of historical pieces. The actor certainly does!

It's a very pretty movie, Anna Karenina. It's shot almost entirely within a theater with some occasional CGI help, with sets and costumes changing. The grand explanation is that everyone acts out roles in life and Russian aristocracy was like a stage, which can be too precious and pretentious, but the movement and transitions are visually interesting, especially since in a lot of cases the take keeps going instead of the creators cutting and editing constantly. The colors and fashion are lovely too.

I definitely recommend this movie for the pretty and feel it's worth seeing.
