Please Help Me, F'list

A German company contacted me through Flickr asking to use one of my window display photos in a brochure of theirs. I responded that I charge $30 a pic. Their reply: Thanks for your information. Is it possible to use the photo also for other purposes if needed?

I wrote back: Could you please clarify for me if you mean that you would like a flat rate for multiple uses of the photo or if you would like to purchase rights again in the future? Thank you.

Their response was so we would use this photo definitely for this brochure but we would like to know if we can use this picture also for other projects if needed by buying it just once for $30?, which, if I'm understanding it right, sounds like they want to just pay $30 and use it for perpetuity on anything they feel like. Are you reading it the same?

That rather ticks me off, but it's not like I have money coming in from anywhere. I'm trying to figure out if I have more negotiating room. Unfortunately, I suck at this stuff. I don't know what I could reasonably ask for, and it doesn't help that they're being vague about what all else they're going to use it for. It also doesn't help that English is probably not their first language, since the company has a German website and the English in their Flickr-mails has been a bit stilted.

A f'list friend figured out a range of prices for me last year and thought I was lowballing myself at $30 per pic. I used that $30 price with the woman who was buying some for her website but when I tried to raise the price a little a few months in she threw a conniption, got me to agree to keep selling to her at the same price, then never bought anything from me ever again. So my track record on payment negotiation has not been good.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks.
