I really wish someone else on my f'list was following the Trinity Blood manga, because I'm dying to discuss volume IX's "Gunmetal Hound" chapters with someone. I love Tres, but "Gunmetal Hound" turned my brain inside out.
Tres is somehow more human than he knows or can psychologically handle? I knew there were some organic components to his makeup, but he bled? The backstory sounds kind of like the clones might have been "born" then had a lot of their parts replaced with machinery.
Tres' programming is quite borked. He didn't want to live as a person with autonomy, and thus chose to be Caterina's mechanized weapon and slave? I keep thinking, "He found someone he wanted to protect," then smacking myself.
He would never say it or express it if he did feel it, but what must it have been like for him to have his "father's" suicide piped right into his ear? Or how about having his nine identical twins ripped to pieces in front of him? Or how about the organization he'd been created to serve being responsible for the destruction?
Duo was limited by completely being a machine in actuality, while Tres' ability to accept and act upon the impossible and the illogical enabled him to win. Tres getting pissed off over Duo dismissing his hoarded and treasured memories of Caterina taking him in as hers really amused me. It's why he destroyed Duo with such extreme prejudice. He didn't even hold the horribly intimate attacks of Duo hacking his mind and trying to destroy his OS against Duo as much as Duo's dismissal of Caterina's offer as "nonsense."
Tres' moment of existential horror and confusion was shocking to me. I was not expecting that. Interesting that he only pulls out of it by reminding himself that he's Caterina's tool, a machine, and thus shouldn't bother with useless human overthinking. He really continues to live only because Caterina took possession of him.
No wonder the artist talked of spazzing out over drawing this in the afterwords comic; 96% of it is Tres or someone who looks like Tres.
String of scandals for Caterina? Do tell.
I do know that this arc has Jossed "
Outfitted."
As for the rest of the volume...
I'm glad poor Radu is laid to rest. I feel much worse for him in the manga than I did in the anime. As sad as it is having Seth's pet turn on her after it sees her go Crusnik, I've found Seth so smugly obnoxious throughout the manga and anime that I felt it was almost necessary. With how she looks and all the kitty faces the art gives her, my head gives her the voice of dub Haruko Haruhara from FLCL.
The photo of the Crusnik clan made Lilith look far too insipid from the impression I got of her in volume V, but the Abel visible in it certainly gives off a lot of character and attitude. The manga is doing a much better job of integrating the science fiction elements of the backstory into the more fantasy-like present.
What does Mirka do to people that the Yeniceri are so terrified of her? I was amused by the afterwords comic in which the artists' friends and co-creators muse over it; they're as perverted as I am. I like Aste with the shorter hair.
The Ion and Esther romance is thankfully much more bearable and low-key in the manga than it was the anime. I also like Ion better.
I even felt a little bad for Dietrich as the Magician and Cain toyed with him. (Loved the afterwords comic too.) I guess sexualized torture is par for the course in the Rosen Kreuz Orden. It's also a good show that even though Dietrich is awful, he's a tiny fish when compared to what else is waiting for our protagonists.
