I am always filled with such pride when I go to Marlboro Commencements. Marlboro has been one of my surrogate mothers. It really helped raise me and give a support network for me when I needed it most. Being there helped to heal many wounds and prepare me to deal with future ones. But most of all, it taught me about independance and community on top of all of the intellectual boot camp. One professor has called Marlboro a "secular monestary." That's pretty accurate. So, when I attend Commencement and hear what others have to say about it, the love, the mixed feelings, the passion of their work and the importance of their time there, I feel very much a part of a grand tradition, something bigger than a family. In my new role as not a staff member, but one of those active alumni who keeps a close tie to the college and supporting the students, I still feel part of that broader Marlboro cosmos.
Anyway. . .
Congratulations all of you here who have just commenced forth into the broader Marlboro cosmos.
