here you go! original/nameless girl-boy dialogue-y ficlet. D: Hopefully you get the idea of aromaticity from it? idk. :(

“This shouldn’t work.”

“But it will,” she replies, full of faith where he’s become worn and jaded. “Trust me.”

He laughs-throws his head back and laughs the way they do in movies, to remind you that they’re really laughing now. Really. “Of course I trust you,” he drawls, because he doesn’t. He shouldn’t. They’ve only known each other for half a year, and they’ve only really known each other for a month.

She lifts her head a little, stares him straight in the eye. “You should.” She keeps her voice quiet and soft; he’s like a wild creature sometimes, ready to start at the slightest notice.

“I should? What if...”

“What if,” she says quietly. She turns away, and her hair slides across her cheek. “Those are very dangerous words: what if.”

He snorts, grabbing her arm and tugging it. “What do you want?” His voice is loud in her ears, pounding just like her blood rushing up to her brain. He can hurt her-she knows that-but he won’t. She trusts him. She barely knows him, but she trusts him; the world is such a dangerous place without trust, without faith, without falling back and knowing that somebody will catch you when you fall.

She brings up a hand, smaller, with neatly shorn round nails, and brushes his cheek gently. It’s a fragile moment, their first fight, their first reconciliation. It’s a moment where they could break, or grow stronger.

He flinches away, lets go of her. “I’m sorry,” he mutters to his shoes.

“No,” she says quietly. “You’re not. But it’s alright. I’ll forgive you anyways.” She squeezes his arm quickly, and then steps back. “We’ll make this work.”

“I don’t believe you.” He laughs dryly. “I am sorry,” he insists.

“Of course.” This is a bond that will break, then. It hurts a little to think about it, to think that she still hasn’t managed to find a bond that will hold firm instead of splintering under the tiniest amount of pressure. He doesn’t trust, isn’t willing to share any of himself with anybody. “Is there somebody else?” She wonders: do you have a best friend watching your back, ready to catch you when you fall? Is there somebody waiting for them?

“What does that mean?” he demands. “Do you think... I’m not cheating on you!”

“It’s only stable if we share ourselves-not with any one person, but in a circle. Me to you and you to him and him to her and her to another him and another him to another her and another her to me.”

But she bites her tongue, doesn’t say the words. There are some things that have to be understood, and can’t be taught.

“What’s wrong with you? Why would you even think such a thing? You’re cheating on me, aren’t you?”

“No,” she says quietly. “I’m not. But you aren’t sharing.”

She breaks away.

You're welcome. :) Aromaticity's hard. I wanted to get Hund's rule in it, but I kinda failed. :/
