Cho Kyuhyun is a new student, studying there to finish his last years of training as a Weather Extra. He expects to make friends and learn everything he has to know. But what he doesn't plan for is Lee Sungmin, the most powerful Extra in the world.

Foreword

So, I know it's been a while since I've posted last and there are a few reasons for this. One, because Sungmin went and got married and I was unhappy with that (although why I let a celebrity dictate my life, I have no clue, he's just cute). Secondly, I lost interest in this fic due to Sungmin's marriage and I couldn't really bring myself to write it. Third, I got busy with life and I stopped writing everything. Now that I've begun writing again, I've come to see that my writing style has changed a bit. So the last few chapters of this fic might look like someone else has written it. Anyway, I'm back now and I'm going to finish this fic because I want to. I don't know how many people are still reading this but for you, this story will be complete.

Discovering the Universal

Chapter Twenty-four

Sungmin swayed as he stepped out of his bedroom. The world spun for a minute and he felt sick to his stomach. The feeling passed almost as quickly as it had come and the Universal shook his head to clear it. It was odd that he felt sick. His Regenerative Legacy made it so that he never had an illness. He had never had that feeling before. Perhaps it was merely some other Legacy coming to the surface. He wondered if it was the beginnings of a Surge. That wouldn’t be unbelievable. His Surges manifested in the most dangerous and unexpected of ways and he didn’t even know half of them. It was one of the reasons he was always afraid to be around people. He could sneeze and it would seem harmless but then ten seconds later, the building was shaking to pieces and half the people were trapped or dead.

He walked down the hallway and into the Unique common room. His two cats followed him, purring lightly. He smiled at the felines as they meandered around on their own. For some odd reason, cats did not have to be invited into the common room. Then again, cats went where they pleased. The Universal bent down and scratched Sen behind the ears. Hyaku then purred and rubbed against his hand. He complied and stroked the bridge of the cat’s nose. His cats finally left him after much alternating petting and Sungmin smiled as he watched them meander away. He walked to the only non-transparent wall in the room and ran his fingers across the brick. It slid open, revealing a small kitchen. Sungmin opened his fridge and drank a glass of chilled lemon water. The taste refreshed him and he felt more awake. He would be able to speak coherently when he met up with Kyuhyun for breakfast.

Kyuhyun was one of the people that Sungmin was most terrified to be around. The Weather Manipulator was just so breakable. The Universal had already had the displeasure of accidentally stealing Kyuhyun’s Legacy. He didn’t want to repeat it again. Sungmin knew he was dangerous and it was for that reason that he had tried to put Kyuhyun off so much. It wasn’t easy for him. His Legacy yearned to be with him, tried desperately to make him accept the Weather Manipulator. But Sungmin was stronger. He had already killed everyone he loved before and he didn’t want the same thing to happen to Kyuhyun. His Legacy, despite realizing that Weather Manipulation was its Promised, had attempted to drain it anyway.

If that could happen, Sungmin was fairly certain it could happen again or end up much worse than before. Kyuhyun, no matter how devoted to him, was always on the brink of death. One reason had been because they hadn’t consummated their relationship. The ever present reason was because Sungmin was capable of wiping out everything if his Legacy Surged badly. The Universal knew that he was going against his nature to try and stay away from his Promised in order to keep him safe. But he had given up on that. It was too hard and too painful to keep it up. He had finally given in and now, his Legacy was calmer than before, no longer struggling and fighting with him as much as before, for which he was grateful.

Sungmin’s vision went fuzzy.

He shook his head and hoped that he wasn’t going to Surge.

Kyuhyun hummed to himself as he folded his laundry. Ryeowook was looking at him with shifty eyes, as if Kyuhyun was insane.

“Wookie~,” Kyuhyun trilled, happy as a clam, “this is your shirt.”

Ryeowook took it cautiously from the Weather Manipulator and nodded.

“You are in an unusually happy mood,” the Invisibility Extra said cautiously, as if Kyuhyun had suddenly become like the volatile Heechul and prone to offense.

It had been two days since he had consummated his relationship with Sungmin and Kyuhyun couldn’t have been happier. He was with the man who was destined to be his and he no longer had to worry about the Universal having another Potential. They were bonded together now, their Legacies touching.

“Sometimes things just go right in life,” Kyuhyun answered, his gaze becoming faraway.

Ryeowook didn’t know what to make of that cryptic answer and so continued folding clothes. There was a soft rush of air and the two looked over to see that Sungmin had materialized in the laundry room with them.

“Min!” Kyuhyun rushed over to him and hugged him. He pressed a kiss to the Universal’s forehead and then nuzzled him lightly. Sungmin sighed softly in return and brushed the back of his fingers against the Diverse Extra’s cheek. Then he noticed Ryeowook and blushed slightly.

“Hi, Ryeowook,” Sungmin nodded at him, his voice timid.

The Invisibility Extra looked at Kyuhyun with a knowing gaze. “So this is why you’re so happy all of a sudden.”

Kyuhyun took Sungmin into his arms, hugging him from behind and resting his chin on the top of the Unique’s head.

“Come on, Wook. Weren’t you happy when you and Yesung got together?”

Ryeowook smiled at the memory. “I don’t remember us being lovey-dovey like you,” he retorted, a playful grin on his face.

Kyuhyun laughed and swatted the air in his general direction. “You guys were so lovey-dovey.”

“Were not!”

“Were too!”

“Were NOT.”

“Were too!”

“Were NOT.”

“Were TOO.”

“WERE NOT.”

“You still ARE!” Kyuhyun snickered.

Ryeowook threw down a shirt and vanished. Kyuhyun blinked. Then he felt something hard kick his ass. He spun around but there was nobody there. He felt it again.

“RYEOWOOK!” The magnae spun in circles like a dog chasing its tail. He ran around the laundry room like a maniac, hoping to shake the angered Invisibility Extra but to no avail. Somehow Ryeowook managed to be everywhere.

Sungmin was doubled over laughing. Kyuhyun had no doubt that he could see Ryeowook easily.

“Come on, Min,” he whined. “Help me!”

“I think you earned that,” the Universal said.

Kyuhyun pouted as he got whacked on the head. He attempted to dodge another attack and ended up getting poked anyways. Taking pity on him, Sungmin finally stopped laughing and blew out a stream of air. Ryeowook materialized in front of him.

“You earned that,” the eternal-magnae said, panting slightly. Then he turned to Sungmin. “How did you know I was there?” he asked.

Sungmin smiled. “Well for one, you’re invisible, not silent. Two, I could see you.”

While Ryeowook grumbled good-naturedly about Universals ruining everything, Kyuhyun watched Sungmin happily.

The Weather Manipulator didn’t know how he had managed without Sungmin. He really didn’t. The Universal made him feel complete. He could manage his own Legacy better now as it drew off the strength of their Promise. Kyuhyun was happy. He called his Legacy to him, making the ground shake with a burst of thunder and throwing Yesung off balance when he tried to shoot a Laserbeam at him. Mr. Kim nodded at him. The Weather Manipulator felt proud.

Ever since he had consummated his relationship with Sungmin, he had been getting better and better at controlling his Legacy. Being inside was no longer a problem for him. In his Practical, he was starting to make progress.

And it was all thanks to his Universal.

“Go fish,” Ryeowook replied to Donghae.

Kyuhyun, Sungmin, Ryeowook, Donghae, Eeteuk, Kangin and Hankyung were all sitting at a table playing Go Fish in the Diverse common room. Donghae was winning by two sets and Sungmin was a close second. Kyuhyun suspected that he might have been mildly cheating with his Legacy.

“Do you have any fives?” Kangin asked Donghae, grinning mischievously. Donghae glared back at his hyung and reluctantly handed over three fives. Kangin crowed with triumph and added another set to his pile.

“You only have two,” Donghae said bitterly.

“Hate the game, not the player,” Kangin replied.

“Unless it’s Sungmin and you can see all the cards,” Kyuhyun teased.

“Hey!” Sungmin punched Kyuhyun on the arm. “I’m not cheating.”

“No need to get all defensive,” the ex-magnae smirked.

Sungmin smiled at him, about to return the jab when his smile dropped and his face went blank.

Kyuhyun’s world suddenly went in slow motion.

The Universal’s eyes dulled and closed, rolling back in his head. His body went limp falling to the floor and his cards scattering everywhere. Kangin jumped up and just managed to catch him before he hit his head.

The Universal was lifeless in Kangin’s arms. His head fell back.

The world resumed its normal pace.

“Sungmin!” Eeteuk yelled frantically as jumped forward to see what the matter was.

Kyuhyun didn’t move a muscle. His brain was working frantically trying to think of why this was happening. His Legacy burned, searching for its other half which had receded and it could no longer feel. What was happening to Sungmin? Ryeowook and Donghae immediately cleared off the couch to make space for the Universal. Kyuhyun stood motionless, unable to move his body as Kangin transported the Universal to the sofa. Hankyung was holding Sungmin’s legs and helping to settle him on the cushions.

Seeing everyone around the Universal jolted the Weather Manipulator into motion. He pushed his way to Sungmin’s side and looked down at his Promised. His heart was beating so fast that Kyuhyun thought the entire room must hear it.

Sungmin’s breathing was barely visible but Kyuhyun could see his chest rise and fall.

“Min?” Kyuhyun whispered. “Min?”

“I think we should take him to the medical centre,” Eeteuk said.

Hankyung nodded, “I can make an Illusion so that nobody sees-” he was cut off by Kangin.

Kangin put a hand on Eeteuk’s arm. “Wait,” he murmured.

For a second nothing changed. Then Sungmin breathed in deeply and then his eyes fluttered open. Kyuhyun nearly cried with relief. The Universal was conscious again.

“What happened?” Kyuhyun asked, his voice gentle. “Do you feel sick? Are you dizzy? What’s wrong?”

Sungmin winced and put a hand to his temple. Then he shook his head as if to clear it.

“I’m fine. I just had a headache and then the next thing I knew, I was waking up,” Sungmin said, his voice wavering slightly.

Kyuhyun’s Legacy reached out, attempting to search for what might have caused the black out. Sungmin’s Legacy reached back and the two touched briefly, making sure the other was all right. He sighed in satisfaction. Sungmin was okay.

Two days later, Kyuhyun, Sungmin, Shindong and Kibum were in the Diverse common room attempting to start a movie. Heechul was attempting to pop popcorn with Hankyung on the balcony and so far, had succeeded only in incinerating half of the popcorn bags.

“Titanic?” Eeteuk asked everyone. They all nodded in agreement. There was nothing like that love story between Jack and Rose.

Kyuhyun turned around to ask Sungmin if he wanted to watch Titanic as well. He found the Universal asleep behind him on the chair, snoring lightly. Kyuhyun smiled at the adorable sight and pressed a kiss to the Universal’s head.

As he turned back to the television, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong with his Promised.
