Entry 14: Makin' the Goods

Jul 17, 2011 19:29

[Day in and day out, it's always the same. The boss calls for another batch, and I make what is required. It's not like any of the other gangs can compete with us. Or me, for that matter. And yet their pathetic dealers roam the streets, selling the worst product imaginable ( Read more... )

I happen to come across me 'associate'. An associate who happens to be a chemist, and happened to turn a tidy profit in the meantime. A congressman, of course, did not deal with Mr.Wesker's type, but no one could prove that he ever had.

Good evening.

What a perfect time for the boss to show up. I'm just about done preparing the last of the week's batches and toss a bag to him. Why not let him inspect the product?

Evening, boss. As always, I believe business is steady.

I turn it over in my fingers and hand it to the man beside me. I don't trust the stuff myself, but it sells like anything.

It's your lucky day. [He says to the man he's giving the packet to.]

Let's see what the review is Mr.Wesker. Now, I've heard you have a small problem with someone who may need to register to vote?

Of course, the inhabitants of the graveyard and the bottom of the river never failed to vote Kura's way, it was their civic duty.

I do, indeed. It seems one of our dealers has turned tail and run to the authorities.

And as soon as I know who exactly it is, they won't live to see another day. Myself and Markus will make sure of that.

[He stands from his chair and leans against the desk.] I was thinking of having a word with one of our...colleagues. To see if he can take care of the problem.

And I can't but wonder just how many of these voters Kura and his men had taken out. Then again, loose lips do sink ships in this area.

Well, go ahead and register him in whatever way you see fit. I'm sure we can fit him with some new shoes as a bonus.

If anything, snitches kept the cement industry afloat.

As you wish. But in other news, how has your campaign been going?

Because of course the congressman was one others didn't cross. I admit that I have my moments where I disagree with his...regulations, but he always comes through for me in the end.

Reelection is in the basket, even if some people are going to complain about the robust turnout.

By which I meant the fact that voter registration exceeded the
total population. But I own the courts and the newspapers, so who's going to complain?

I knew very well what he meant by that. Those who oppose him...well, let's just say they didn't get a right to vote the second time around.

And you had no one oppose you in this race?

There's always a sacrificial lamb to make things look good.

And of course I offer up a laugh. The boss was right in saying what he did. He hasn't lost a race since...well, I don't think he ever has.

But of course. [He motions to the bag the other man is holding.] I have increased the purity of the product and figure we could easily make double on the new formula. Thoughts?

So, how does that effect the more 'habit forming' qualities, and does manufacturing cost change?

That is one of the differences, yes. The increased purity will increase the craving within the body.

[He shakes his head.] Not by much, no.

Then do it, but phase it in slowly.

Always giving his voters what they want.

A good plan.

A nod of approval from myself. I can only hope that the dealers will still know their place once they learn of the changes.

And have you heard anything about the other...our opposition? I know one of the families is closing in on our turf...Or so I've heard.

We can't have too many keeling over at once, it's bad for business.

I have been looking into it. There's a new pair of cleaners in town, a man and a smaller boy, who may be worth putting on payroll.

More have moved in? I'm not sure if this should be music to my ears or not.

And what is their specialty, precisely?
