Entry 14: Makin' the Goods

Jul 17, 2011 19:29

[Day in and day out, it's always the same. The boss calls for another batch, and I make what is required. It's not like any of the other gangs can compete with us. Or me, for that matter. And yet their pathetic dealers roam the streets, selling the worst product imaginable ( Read more... )

I happen to come across me 'associate'. An associate who happens to be a chemist, and happened to turn a tidy profit in the meantime. A congressman, of course, did not deal with Mr.Wesker's type, but no one could prove that he ever had.

Good evening.

What a perfect time for the boss to show up. I'm just about done preparing the last of the week's batches and toss a bag to him. Why not let him inspect the product?

Evening, boss. As always, I believe business is steady.

I turn it over in my fingers and hand it to the man beside me. I don't trust the stuff myself, but it sells like anything.

It's your lucky day. [He says to the man he's giving the packet to.]

Let's see what the review is Mr.Wesker. Now, I've heard you have a small problem with someone who may need to register to vote?

Of course, the inhabitants of the graveyard and the bottom of the river never failed to vote Kura's way, it was their civic duty.

I do, indeed. It seems one of our dealers has turned tail and run to the authorities.

And as soon as I know who exactly it is, they won't live to see another day. Myself and Markus will make sure of that.

[He stands from his chair and leans against the desk.] I was thinking of having a word with one of our...colleagues. To see if he can take care of the problem.

And I can't but wonder just how many of these voters Kura and his men had taken out. Then again, loose lips do sink ships in this area.

[Coming in to pick up the goods is always a little nerve-wracking. It's not that I can't fill my quota and I'm not skimming off the money I make. Even if the business isn't honest, I am when it comes to my employer.

The problem is I'm also pretty honest with the cops and local PIs. That's why I'm nervous when it comes to actually coming to the central "office".

I edge into the room where the product's being prepared, staying near the door and hoping my anxiety will be written off by the fact that my boss is a pretty imposing guy.]

Hey, boss.

[The voice belongs to none other than Yuu, one of my best dealers. But somehow I feel that something is different with him...no matter.

I wave him over, never turning away from my work.]

Right on time, Yuu. Did you make quote this time round?

[I sidle up to the table and lay down an envelope with my take at its edge, out of Wesker's way but in his line of sight.]

Yes. This is all of it.

[Why is the boy so nervous all of a sudden? I can clearly see that he's telling me the truth as I look at the contents of the envelope...unless...unless there is something he hiding.]

And no one gave you any problems?

[I slide over one bag, almost as an exchange.]

[It was another long day at work, answerin' phones and typin' up the boss' notes... and losin' that report with my baby's name on top. But now the day's done and I can head home. But I know my baby's not at home in our lush penthouse. Oh no. He always works late. So I'll head to that warehouse and duck into that back room where he'll undoubtedly be hunched over a table full of "product", sleeves all rolled up and tie loose... just how I like it.

And that's exactly how I find him. So I'll saunter up and throw my arms around his strong shoulders and kiss his cheek.]

Hi Baby. Have a good day?

[I finish with another bag as I hear the door open. Now who could it be at this hour? I--oh, the sound of those heels. To be honest, I can't wait to leave and get her home. But seeing as I have to keep up appearances, I don't let my reaction show as she approaches and plants one on my cheek.]

As always. [I can't stop the smile that appears. It's odd, but she's the only dame who's made me feel this way.]

And yours? [I close the bag and set it to the side before grabbing another stash.]

[I just love that smile of his. Every time I see those slight wrinkles appear beside those icy blues my heart just goes pitter-pat.]

It was borin' mostly. But another report had to get lost today. More suspicion with your name floatin' around in it. But don't worry I took care of it.

[That white powder in those bags really is rather pretty. I reach down for one to have a closer look...]

Oh? Well isn't that just grand...You did what was best in taking care of that report.

[I glance down and see her reach for one of the bags. How many times have I told her about leaving prints behind?

I smack her hand away, and of course the smile disappears. She needs to learn one way or the other that she can't go touching every single thing she lays her eyes on.]

Trying to get yourself in trouble?
