An interesting tidbit for those of you who have read Tanya Huff's Four Quarters series: I was given a map of Albania in my linguistics class and was surprised to immediately recognize several place names. I haven't read that series, but I like it when people use the Balkans in fantasy, just because it manages to be foreign without (at least to me) being one of the go-to real-world cultures that fantasy tends to default to.
