I am sick! Hooray!

I’ve been feeling pretty crappy for over a month now. Nothing very serious, pretty much just a constellation of very vague symptoms accompanied by an overall tired feeling. I’d been chalking it up to starting to feel my age and getting pretty bummed that this was my new baseline for health.

On Friday, I decided to go to my health center to see what they had to say about it. The physician's assistant listened attentively, agreed that my symptoms were really all over the place and didn’t point to anything specific. She figured that I had a weak virus of some sort and that I was having a hard time evicting it from my system. She ordered a blood draw to see what it would tell her.

Well, she called me last night to report that my overall white cell count is right at the high end of normal. When she looked at the percentage breakdown, she saw that I have a normal amount of virus-fighting WBCs, but that my bacteria-fighting WBCs are at the high end of normal. All of this indicates a mild bacterial infection that my immune system can’t quite manage to beat down on it’s own.

This is really good news; a bacterial infection means we can call in the antibiotic cavalry! I started a Z-pack this morning and I should actually start feeling well in the very near future!

Edit
Z+3.5 hours: Quite possibly a psychosomatic effect, but I'm already feeling less tired and worn-down than I have been!
