Freezey cold today. Snowy, a bit, too. Good thing the boy closed our storm windows yesterday. I can still feel the drafts on my ankles, but they aren't blowing things around anymore.
Went out to
Worm's Way today. They're big into hydroponics and germination. But I'll be able to get organic plant food and the like there when I need it next spring. Yay! Mostly, though, I went because I noticed they sell brewing equpiment. Since my dad makes (tasty good!) beer at home, I thought I'd look into getting him some stuff. I'm a bit overwhelmed. Perhaps some neat bottles will do.
I also hit up Global Foods for some treats. Got some mole, queso anejo, and corn tortillas so I could whip out some enchiladas (done!). Got some ramen for warming snacks and sick meals. Got some aonori (seaweed flakes) and Kewpie Mayonnaise for okonomiyaki. Bought a daifuku for a snack--mashed up gelatinous rice (aka mochi) filled with red bean paste and then rolled in sesame seeds so it doesn't stick to your fingers when you eat it. So good.
While I made the enchiladas, I also made dumplings for my turkey soup. They taste ok, but I got a little overeager with the new mixer. They were so full of air they kind of fell apart when I put them in the soup to cook. It's very unattractive. And the soup is a bit bland, even though I added garlic and cayenne peppers when it was cooking. Next year I'll have to do a bit better. (Or maybe after my birthday, since the boy thinks he's going to deep fry us a turkey.)
