Phrasing Question

So, I'm working on Episode 5 of Percy Weasley: Rogue Demon Hunter and I've run across a small phrasing issue.

In a U.S. city, people generally refer to the distances between places in terms of 'blocks' or 'miles.' For example:

She was flushed and sweaty, in trainers and running shorts, and clutching a bag from the bakery down the lane ( Read more... )

I think you could just say "miles" or simply "so far"

Yeah, "miles" will be fine as would "really far", "ages away" etc.

I think I like the way 'miles' sounds, given the context of the dialogue. ^_^ Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Whee! A RDH cookie! Being American, my input hardly counts, but I do recall JKR using the term mile in GOF (incorrectly, as she indicated it took them twenty minutes to walk half a mile, and that's ludicrous). But there you go.

Not really My school is within walking distance, and can't be more than a mile, and today I got hoime within fifteen minutes. It can take me half an hour. It just depends.

No, we don't use blocks. Usually its miles.
