Phrasing Question
So, I'm working on Episode 5 of Percy Weasley: Rogue Demon Hunter and I've run across a small phrasing issue.
In a U.S. city, people generally refer to the distances between places in terms of 'blocks' or 'miles.' For example:
She was flushed and sweaty, in trainers and running shorts, and clutching a bag from the bakery down the lane.
“I was out for a run and thought I’d drop by with breakfast.”
Celia was very definitely a morning person, and Percy was very definitely not.
“You ran all this way? But your flat is blocks from here.”
“That’s the general idea, Percy,” she said, and headed for the kitchen.
Is that a realistic term for people in London to use? Or is there some other U.K. city-dweller measure of distance? I've gotten around this in fics like Dreamwalk Blue by opting for more archaic terms like 'leagues' because those fics take place in the past. But in this case... Help?
