It's Beta Reader Appreciation Day. So, have you hugged your beta today? ^_-

Beta Reader Appreciation Day (BRAD - October 13, 2000) questionnaire

Who was your first beta? Rachel Pollak (Rachel, where _are_ you?)

What was the story and fandom? Rebirth of the Empire (now Iteration), Star Wars

Are you still writing in that fandom? Occasionally. ^_-

Which beta(s) had the most impact on your writing? flourish She was the first beta to really kick my ass on the details (in a good way, of course).

What is your favorite story or series of what you've written? Dreamwalk Blue ranks way up there, of course. And I'm pretty fond of both Lovelorn and Amour.

Why? What a question. In DB, I think it's because I love the characters so much (even the ones I don't necessarily like). I'm also in love with the setting and time period. In Lovelorn and Amour I think it's the themes more than the characters. I like the characters, but they're so supremely messed up it's hard to love them. (Well, maybe I could love Connor... *rowr*) They're my problem children. They fight and lie and sin and no one likes them very much, but they tell a darned good story.

Who was the beta? flourish and karinly beta DB. And ladylisse, Deb and the whole Angel Fanfic Workshop had hands in beta-ing 'Lovelorn' and 'Amour'. Multiple betas are the way to go.

What are your next two favorite stories or series of what you've written? Occasional Rain and Iteration would be so cool if I could ever find the time and discipline to finally finish them.

Why? Because both plots will make people so mad. But, I hope, in a good way. Heh.

Who was/were the beta(s)? Rachel. castorandpollux, sundancekid, Shay, nicolae.

Who beta-ed your most recent story? Deb.

What do you consider the most important quality in a beta reader? See below. ^_^

What do you consider the most important thing to be accomplished in a beta read? (Grammar, spelling, continuity, plot, character, canon, fanon, hand holding, other?) All of the above? Ideally, a beta reader will be able to detect your strengths/weaknesses in a given piece and focus on those.

How has your writing changed from your first stories? I'm less afraid to take chances -- with characters, style, whatever. I've learned that a failed experiment isn't the end of the world.

What do you attribute that to? Experience. Good betas, good feedback and a whole lot of time. ^_^

Comments: Nothing but love for all my betas. ^_-
