Jacob had asked him to keep it a secret. They can't know. They wouldn't understand, he had said.
So Richard, he asks questions he already knows the answers to. He knows who they are; he knows them too much. He knows why they're here; he knows what will happen.
They never find out he's jumping through time with them, because his tears only start to fall when the white flashes are taking them away from him, from the truth.
Years pass for them, and they step right over those tears over and over.
Richard can only wish they'd somehow notice.
