Memories
When Arthur is about to jump off the building to end his life, the memories of the stunning girl and her beautiful smile and her powerful words are not the only ones that he has.
There's another memory stuck in his mind. It's a memory where he's talking to one of his students, Yayoi, and he remembers her complimenting him and he remembers him denying it all, because he doesn't truly deserve it.
"Oh, don't be like that, Mr. Mays," he recalls Yayoi saying. "Anyone would want to be you. You live in a place where you've dreamed of being all of your life! And you're so creative and smart and--"
But he stops thinking about it there, because it's the only memory that he doesn't want to recollect. He doesn't want to believe that he's worthy of life, that he is in a place where he belongs--because with life, he loses all of his precious memories and in this place, his memories are being taken away from him.
And so he sits on the roof of the building, looking down below. He plans to stay there as long as he needs to in order to give himself a little more time to forget the memory where he's being told nothing but lies, so he can leave the world and finally go to a place with all of the memories he actually wants.
