Abandonment
To Ryo, it seemed like everyone in his life was disappearing--slowly, but surely.
Edward was announced as a criminal, and not too long after, he was claimed to be dead. There was no explanation as to what had happened, but Ryo didn't care. What bothered Ryo was the fact that they had exchanged letters for years, and that he had admired all of Edward's wisdom and had considered him as his role model. What bothered Ryo was that he never had the chance to ask Edward why he had done what he did. Because of this, Ryo found himself burning all of the letters he had collected over the years and asked Edward questions, ones that he never got the answers to.
Reiji was murdered. This was around the same time that Ryo finally remembered how they had known each other so long ago, around the same time that Ryo had learned how he came to love studying and reading and life in general. Ryo believed that everything he became was all thanks to Reiji, and he had planned to express his gratitude and apologize for all the times that he had yelled in class--but it was too late, and all that Ryo wanted to say never reached Reiji and only became an echo on the wind.
The only time that Ryo found any comfort while thinking of this was when Hibiki came to him and embraced him and said nothing, only offered silent reassurance. Ryo didn't have to explain anything, because Hibiki always, always knew.
"You'll stay, right, Hibiki? You won't disappear?" Ryo said after a few more moments of silence, failing to prevent his voice from cracking.
"Of course," Hibiki replied softly.
It was a promise that Ryo believed would last forever--
--but a few days later, Hibiki was suddenly killed, and Ryo was left alone.
