hair creme/lotion?

i was going back through old posts and noticed someone mentioned home recipes for hair creme or lotion, but didn't list them. that got me to thinking (i am new to the curly side of things) what cremes do you ladies use to set your curls, and how do you use them? if you make them yourselves, post a recipe! i'd really like to find a good one that works, as i'm growing my hair out to embrace a curlier vintage style this time around.
