I made Sausage Pudding

Jul 19, 2010 09:11

Submitted by suzybel  here, I've always wanted to try Yorkshire Pudding, and since this was like it, and seemed easy, I figured what the heck!

Here I've mixed together the pudding ingredients. I'll now set them aside …

… while I brown my sausage!

Ike hangs around in the kitchen, desperately hoping I'll drop some sausage on the floor.

The sausage is nicely browned, and while the recipe calls to just pour the pudding mixture overtop of the sausage in the pan and put the pan in the oven, I'm going to use a baking dish since this pan isn't oven safe.

And into the oven it goes. The recipe doesn't state an exact time to bake it, so I'm just going to keep an eye on it while I make the rest of dinner.

It's been in the oven now for about 45 minutes, and it's nice and brown and bubbly.

I served it with mashed potatoes and pepper gravy, corn, and a nice bottle of ginger beer.

So what did I think? The sausage pudding was actually kind of bland. The pepper gravy helped. Also, I baked it too long. I was expecting the pudding to be soft and chewy maybe, but it was crunchy. And it stuck everywhere it touched the baking dish! I probably should have sprayed it with oil, but I thought the sausage would be greasy enough to compensate. But that didn't happen!

I think this could also be served with scrambled eggs as a breakfast dish. It's very greasy however, so avoid this dish if you're watching your fat intake!

Andy ate every bite though, so it passed the roommate test. Even the cat seemed interested in his plate.

Must be the sausage.

See my next posting for dessert!
