Juke Box Gyro...
Ok, so I don't know if anyone is following professional sports at all, but hopefully you'd still know that Kirk Hinrich is one of the best players on the Chicago Bulls right now. Ok, so a while back, in a game against Boston, Kirk was having a fantastic game. He was hitting crazy shots and just could not be stopped. The announcer, perhaps in a moment of enthusiasm then went ahead and said, "Hinrich takes another one away from the Celtics! He is killing them like Heinrich Himmler!" And then there was a pause for about 4-5 seconds. No one said anything about it for the rest of the game. It was not mentioned again except breifly in the paper the next day.
So in my previous post, I referred to some hardkore leftists that were at the Chicago Social Forum. (I believe they are part of the Chicago Revolutionary Network) So these two guys show up at the workshop, and you know they're there just to fuck shit up, rather than let other people at the workshop get the maximum enjoyment and learning out of it. They sat their rather patiently until the presenters start a Q and A. Then when they are called upon, one of them stands up and begins denouncing the entire existence of the social forum. He declared that it was modeled after the World Social Forum and that it had funding from all the wrong people, and that rather than sitting in calm conversation with people with a wide array of ideas and experiences, that we should be out in the streets, and that the forum was created to distract activists instead. His organization sees the Bolshevik revolution as the ultimate example of what should happen. He believed that armed revolution is the only way to achieve any kind of change, and that the bourgeoisie are keeping us down, and that we should refuse to even meet with the bourgeoisie face to face. So on and so forth, down with capitalism, and the rest. This kid is about 20 years old and goes to the University of Chicago. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to talk to him face to face, so I'm going to have to have that conversation right here:
"First of all, how dare you come down from the privelage of the ivory tower on the south side and refer to anyone as capitalist or bourgeoisie. You're at least as invested as anyone else here. How dare you speak from your privelaged place and try to stir up the masses. You don't represent them. You want me to take to the streets with you? I'll bet you do, because when the police do come and start busting heads, you're going to get away scott free while my brown ass gets beaten. Have you ever held a gun, little boy? I have. Have you ever pointed a gun at anyone? It's not that easy. Have you ever even spent a night in jail? It's awfully nasty. Don't come here and disrupt a peaceful forum. Organize your own SHIT."
Ever had an argument with an anarchist? That's a waste of breath. What you don't realize, until too late, is that their goal was the argument, the chaos, not the ideas exchanged. But yeah, for the most part you can't argue with assholes like these. They have set their minds, locked them, and it literally an exercise in futility to engage them.
