Today was pretty craptastic.
My co-worker, Janet, who lives just a few doors down was supposed to give me a ride to work this morning but forgot. So I get to her house and her boyfriend tells me, "Oh, you just barely missed her." So I had to walk when I wasn't planning on it. This wouldn't have been quite so bad except I was due in extra early. Instead I was extra late.
Then, most of the week they've been scheduling extra people because we have a huge sale going on, but today I was alone until 1:00pm. So of course straight away I get about half a dozen people who need help finding things while another half dozen have returns. And someone with a teething baby that was crying. Fortunately, for change, all the customers were nice and very patient. But I kept having trouble with the register. And I kept messing up simple things that I know how to do quite well, but my brain did not seem to want to focus. I slept well last night, I had caffeine this morning. I don't know what the problem was. And things kept falling on me. And my knee was, for some reason, aching horribly! I hadn't bumped it, or strained it or anything. It was just hurting like crazy! Took tylenol, but it didn't help.
And they finally got someone in to, ONCE AGAIN, fix the second register. It goes down every couple of days, the repairman is there several times a week. He actually said, "Oh thank god, it's a completely different problem this time!" He's had to try and fix the same recurring problem about 18 times, so I guess he appreciated the novelty.
He got it fixed, so I went open it. Except nobody closed it last night!!!
Even though I specifically made a point of telling the night person it needed to be done. Aargh!
So I had to close it; having to stop several times for customers which meant I'd have to start all over, and THEN open it, again having to stop quite a few times.
Then of course it was more helping people find things, doing returns, explaining why the coupon doesn't work on these items and cleaning the fitting room. Finally 1:00pm and Millie arrives! At last I'm able to escape momentarily to the rest room! Then 30 minutes later the other 2 people arrive. And why did they have me alone all morniing, but 4 of us from 1:30-5:30? When there's only 2 registers in the department?
So I go to lunch. Forgot to bring one, so I go over to Target to buy a can of soup. Get to the break room and all the bowls, including the one that I actually own, are being used. Now I leave my bowl in the break room all the time so I don't have to carry it back and forth every day and worry about dropping it and breaking it,or forgetting it at home. And I don't mind if people use it as long as they wash it out afterwards, which sadly some people don't. But it was just one more thing today. So I had to go to the food court and get something else to eat. Was NOT very happy about this. Then I had to bolt down the chicken sandwich so I got back in time.
More returns, more register troubles and many more brain farts. My knee let up a bit, but instead CRAMPS kicked in. Joy. Took Pamprin, which I was very happy I had with me, and whimpered quietly until it took effect.
Went on afternoon break and went to the Lindt store and bought 3 dark chocolates and ate them hoping it would help my mood. Eh, not for long sadly, though the Pamprin kicked in so that was good.
Finally it's 5:30, I'm free! Punch out, get my stuff and go to meet with Janet. Nobody there to take over for Janet. She calls over one of her co-workers.
"I'm working over here."
In a department that's NOT his and he's been told more than once he's to stick to his own area. She explains she has to leave, she's already over 40 hours for the week and if this keeps up they'll call her to the office. Bummer, sorry. The other 2 people have gone on break. One of them only got in 30 minutes ago! She ends up getting stuck there an extra 25 minutes. I even walked around to see who could come take over for her. No dice.
We finally got out of there and drove home, of course hitting every red light on the way.
Oh and an extra special thank you to the lady in the white car in front of us who was so busy talking on her phone that she missed the fact that the light turned green even with several people beeping at her...twice...AT TWO DIFFERENT LIGHTS!!!
So finally I get home, go upstairs, change my clothes and COLLAPSE. I just stared blankly at the wall for about 15-20 minutes.
Then I checked my email. Then I had some supper. Then I checked the (post) mail box and found that my dvd had arrived! Yay, good news, especially since I opened it and checked and, yes, it seems to work. So when I'm done this entry I'm going to change into my fuzzy blue jammies, read my Bible chapter, climb in bed and watch 'The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax'.
Tomorrow WILL be better. I refuse to accept otherwise!
mrs. pollifax,
wotta day,
yay for pamprin! brain farts
