i used to be really set against change
rather, someone changing me
some unknown character from the male species
swooping in and
destroying the essence of me

the one every mistake, heartbreak, and setback
have ultimately helped define
just who i am.

i realize you're taking a chance here
even though you're not the betting kind
never been so monogamously inclined before
you used to be really set against love

like someone up there is listening,
paying attention long enough
to jinx it.

i know it's hard to believe
but i'm going to let my guard down
i don't worry quite so often that you'll stab me in the back
