I want a bracelet or a t-shirt that says WWCJD?
I'm like completely obsessed with Allison Janney. Actually, half the actors on The West Wing. I only wish that this'd happened sooner, because I regret not seeing Underneath the Lintel with Richard Schiff while I was in London. I'm totally the crazy fan that Josh talks about with that Star Trek chick in that one episode. I adore talking about my favorite episodes of various television shows and I go through phases and The West Wing is just the current one.
But I've always loved CJ.
And I'm having some serious issues with these latest episodes, but the acting never ceases to be phenomenal. I feel there's some character assassination, but that's not quite it. I feel like the ratings dropped off and so somebody higher up decided that we should shake things up a bit, and that involved pushing characters to the extremes of their personalities. It makes listing my characters in order of favorites easier, and I don't think that anything is truly out of left field, but I just feel like it's a shitty thing to do to a character. And you all know what a character junkie I am.
I think I should make a list of my all-time favorite TV characters. It's like CJ Cregg and Dana Scully and Rose Tyler. I did it a while back, I think, the "best" TV characters. Which is not necessarily my favorite characters (for instance, Malcolm Reynolds is, I think, one of the best television characters ever, but he wouldn't be my favorite Firefly character. That'd be Kaylee), but it's close. So far it seems like all my favorite characters are female, which is not quite so true. Off the top of my head, they're something like CJ Cregg, Rupert Giles, Dana Scully, Rose Tyler, Veronica Mars, Jack Bristow, and Ed Stevens. And that's not even thinking that hard and that's like one per show. Best TV characters is like Mal Reynolds, The Ninth Doctor (I find Nine more interesting than Ten, although I find Ten sexier), Buffy Summers, and Jed Bartlet. Those seem to be mostly men. I don't know. Something that makes a good character is generally versatility and interest. I need to be invested and connected to a favorite character, I need to be intrigued by a great character. And versatility is, actually, I think, essential.
Right now, though, I'm obsessed with CJ Cregg. Do any of you MAKE t-shirts? Because, seriously, WWCJD. Although my "Who's Your Spy Daddy?" t-shirt is sometimes difficult to explain, so that would be, too. "Bartlet for America," there's what I want.
Rewatching the series, also, I really love Leo and Toby. Which may explain my general distaste for the seventh season. Also, and this is a vague spoiler, Josh is an asshole. Like, he's always an asshole, but it's really coming out in Seasons 6/7.
I'm gonna post this now, this craziness. I'm seriously so into Allison Janney right now. The woman can do no wrong. I need to get back to reading. And I have an early day tomorrow.
In the end, what I meant to say. I'm very impressed with the actors of The West Wing. Because their material has gotten iffy, but they are still stellar. I can be angry at Toby and blown away by Richard Schiff at the same time. And John Spencer and Martin Sheen never disappoint. And I worship at the altar of Allison Janney.
Also, I saw Neko Case in Ithaca last Saturday and it was unbelievably amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Now reading, I swear. But I should write about the Neko Case, because: oh my god, her voice is like a god's
