Hello All!
I had a dream last night, set about 10-15 years in the future. I was having a conversation with someone, an American.
They said that Australians had emerged into two castes. Castes, rather than classes.
They said that they said caste, because class was a bit 'British' sounding apparently...Specifically though, they were referring to the distribution of wealth. It had squeezed into two groups that were fairly homogenous yet also mutually exclusive.
This replaced what was formerly the class divide that was iconic in the Labor/Liberal political sphere.
On the one hand there were the Landlords, who controlled the land and real estate wealth.
On the other, there was the what were called the destitute professionals. People who could afford to live well in rental accommodation, yet with little in the way of long-term wealth. These people lived almost as nomads migrating lifestyles where employment was based far more on where people could find a place to live, rather than a place to his/her workplace.
Anyway this was just a random dream that seemed quite plausible.
