Fic meme

Aug 29, 2008 18:53

I'm in the mood to do some writing today but feeling so full of flu that I've no energy to spare on brain-power. So I've done a fic meme, stolen from
rynne

Post the first line paragraph from your 25 most recent fanfics and try to find a pattern.

I've sorted them by most recently written or added to first, not by publication date (as I've included WIPs I haven't finished yet other wise it wouldn't have made 25).

1. Anakin raked a hand through his hair as he stalked from the meeting, concentrating on leaving the vicinity of the other Alliance Council members before he gave in to the burning temptation to vent his frustration on them.  [untitled sequel to Duplicity WIP, L/V]

2. The future was uncertain. Luke could feel, deep down in his gut, that anything could happen next - anything at all. He could see a hundred different threads of possibility stretching out before him, winding off into futures he couldn't see, around corners he couldn't fore-guess. [Return of the Jedi: Choose Your Own Adventure, L/V]

3. Anakin took a moment to gather his breath. An icy chill swept through him, and when he looked up Luke was standing over him, the blade at his father's throat, his hand shaking, the sweat on his forehead glistening. [untitled sequel to About Turn WIP, L/V]

4. Luke blinked the stinging tears from his eyes, the light blinding and burning him with a white-hot heat. It brushed against his skin, blistering it. When he tried to scream, no sound emerged from his parched throat. [Equally Cursed and Blessed, L/V]

5. "I'm here to see Luke." [Legacy, Leia/V]

6. That night we slept on the floor of an Ewok hut.  It smelt of the woodsmoke that drifted up between the floorboards, from the celebratory bonfires that still burned on the forest floor below us. And, more faintly, it smelt of the sweeter, acrid smell of burning plastisteel from the smouldering stormtrooper armour that popped and crackled in the flames. [untitled L/V drabble]

7. “What is this?!” Vader demanded, the words somehow bursting through the incredulity that had frozen his mind. And though he’d directed it at the hapless officer who stood in front of him, the boy flinched as if he’d been struck, and ducked his head. Something in Vader’s chest twisted with a delicious, brutal pain. [untitled WIP, L/V slash]

8. "...Anakin? ...Anakin? ...Anakin!" [A Hope in Hell, L/V]

9. Barely ten minutes after his ship had reverted from hyperspace, the news of his arrival had begun to spread. A bubbling, eager excitement reached towards him through the Force, a boiling mass of expectant emotions stretching towards him even as Yavin Control hailed him. [Duplicity, L/V]

10. “Wait! Wait - Biggs! Wait!” [Nova, L/V]

11. Death surrounded her, pressed in against her, icy cold. She was drowning in it - she couldn’t breathe, and when she opened her eyes she could barely make out Luke, crouching in front of her, his expression stricken. [The Chrysalis WIP, L/V]

12. Luke rolled over onto his stomach and groaned, burying his face in the soft pillow. This was ridiculous. Even as a teenager he hadn't been this preoccupied with sex, but this was the third time this night that he'd woken from a spine-tingling dream with a mind full of lewd images and an erection that was so hard it bordered on painful. [Blindsight, L/V slash]

13. He was nervous. She could see it in the way his fingers twitched, almost as if they pined for the hilt of his lightsaber. No one else would have noticed that twitch, she knew - all the other delegates would see the image Luke meant to project: that of a calm, competent Jedi, at ease with himself and those around him. But not Leia - and she didn't even need to feel the spill of his troubled emotions over their sibling-bond to know he hated being here: she could see his unease in the nervous little gestures he made, the hollow flicker in his eyes. [Most of the Time, Anyway, gen]

14. Did you know he wants you, Father? [In a Position of Command, L/V slash]

15. "Happy Birthday, kid." [... To Those Who Wait, L/V]

16. Standing here, in the glittering sunshine that bounced unwavering heat off the worn and cracked permacrete landing strip, it felt like her life had paused for just a brief moment. The mad rush of the last few days ended here, as if the energy that had driven her from Bail Organa's death bed to this isolated hilltop above the Vader Estate had finally run out, the last gasp of desperation breathed out of her, leaving behind an exhaustion and trepidation that she would admit to no one. [untitled drabble WIP, L/V with Leia]

17. It’s hard to sleep when your heart is breaking. My mind is too full - bloated with memories that cut at me like my head is full broken glass. My limbs are too restless; I want to walk, I want to run, I want to tear myself apart - but I’m too tired. My body, weary and exhausted, sits slumped in a chair, my mind railing at the injustices of Destiny. [Finally Woken, L/V slash]

18. "Echo Three, Echo Three. Anybody out there?" [untitled WIP, L/V - on hold!]

19. A chair. A repulsor-table. A dark blind at a small window. I become aware of these things slowly, as if each one only exists once my confused attention falls upon it. A door, blast-proof. A med-driod, staring at me with vacant, un-powered eyes. My hand, groping for the breathing tube pushed down my throat. [untitled WIP, L/V - on hold!]

20. A rough shove to his shoulder sent him tipping over the side of the bed to hit the stone floor with a grunt. [Storm-tossed, H/L]

21. This, too, shall pass.... [White Flag, H/L]

22. Don't wait for me to tell you to run, kid. [Not Quite Epiphany, H/L]

23. In the reflection of one of the grand, over-sized mirrors Han saw Luke grimace and tug on the bottom of his too-tight, too-stiff dress uniform. He felt himself smirk, despite the  boredom. "Changing your mind ain't allowed, kid." [Never Make Big Decision After Sex, H/L]

24. "Qui-Gon, you're staring." Mace's quiet chuckle broke Qui-Gon out of his blank-minded stare, his flush of guilt quickly suppressed by iron will and a long gulp of the Alderaanian wine gripped crushingly hard in his hand. [The Incredible, Edible Obi-Wan Kenobi, Q/O]
25. I am no stranger to silence, but it is hard to be silent when there are revelations screaming through your mind. [My Bitten Heart, L/v]

Are there any themes? Hmmm  - people sleeping and/or waking up, maybe? What's that about?? Also, people pausing for a moment before something happens, or bracing themselves for something. I seem to quite like starting with a contextless piece of dialogue - I think that comes from the pulp fiction school of hook'em early.
