A miracle has halpened, I'm in agreement with the DailyMail! They have published a report from a study showing that being positive does NOT change the outcome of an illness.
I'm naturally positive but nothing makes me more negative than being told I have to be positive! It happens on a regular basis and on the rare occasion I express a negative (or even simply a realistic) thought I get told things like 'don't say that' or 'you have to remain positive', being told this doesn't actually help it does quite the opposite. Are ill people not allowed to express a worry, fear or even the simple fact of what their prognosis is?
I love people who really believe that people who get better are obviously more positive, are more of a 'fighter' and who 'dont give in to being ill' than those who don't. Only last week someone (who has no health problems) said to me they 'don't believe in giving into pain and taking painkillers', maybe he would change his mind if he experienced severe chronic pain and don't even get me started on those who 'don't give in to using a wheelchair'.
I think being positive in life is a good thing, why cast your face to the ground when you can look to the sky, however positivity about ones situation can only come from within and simply being told to 'keep your chin up' (i found being told this particularly ironic during the years of not being able to actually support my own head) will not help.
