Last summer, I was horrified to discover that "The goddamned" Frank Miller would be writing and directing the movie adaptation of Will Eisner's The Spirit. I mean, "grim 'n' gritty" is antithetical to The Spirit's, well, spirit. The title of this post is the mantra I developed to combat a Miller-esque Spirit.
There was a a panel on "The Spirit" movie at the NYCC.
Comic Book Resources covered the panel
here. “Sometimes, life just sucks” the email began, explaining why Miller couldn’t make it and how he planned to approach the project, focusing more on the grittier noir type of stories rather than the more light hearted ones.
“Get ready,” Miller concluded, “we’re on our way to some dark places.”
Emphasis is mine.
Arrgh! I want to stab my eyes out with a pencil.
There was one good thing about this panel, however. Frank Miller couldn't attend in person because he slipped on some ice and broke his hip. THAT'S RIGHT, MILLER! NATURE HATES YOU!
I'm not really gloating because Miller hurt himself. That would be mean.
