My Five Favorite Webcomics Meme

1. Friendly Hostility by Sandra K. Fuhr (a.k.a. saunteringdown)

How to describe this? Well, the main characters are Fox and Colin, who are in a relationship with one another. Colin is gay, but Fox is bi with a preference for the ladies. Understandably, this worries Colin. Their supporting cast include Fox's crazy-but-awesome family (his father is practically a mad scientist, his mom is smokin' hot, and his "uncle" is a satanic priest), a demon, a snarky Mexican violinist, and a college-age girl called "Bootsie" who is Colin's slave. He won her in a poker game.

The comic above is Fox at his new job as a magazine journalist. The scruffy guy is his editor, Mr. Rudd. And the blonde guy in the last panel is Colin.

(Off-topic: Is it wrong that I seem to be attracted to middle-aged magazine editors who rarely shave and are alcoholics? Yes, yes it is.)

2. Goodbye Chains by Alice Hunt and A. Nasir. (a.k.a. heykidscomix)

Banquo is a thief. Colin (that seems to be a popular name) is a Communist. This takes place in the Old West. It makes more sense if you start at the beginning... Also, do not miss Venus in Points, the pointy-dog spin-off comic, an example of which is above. Marx loves you!

Oh yeah, it's hosted by Girl Wonder. Yay!

3. Unshelved by Bill Barnes and Gene Ambaum

Admittedly, this comic probably funnier if you work in a library, have relatives who are librarians, or are a librarian. Personally, I'm already 2 out of 3 and I'm working on the last one. Still, the full-color book reviews they publish every Sunday are great for everyone and there's a lot of geek humor too.

4. Grayling by arborwin.

I'm not posting an example here because it wouldn't make any sense. Grayling is a very long non-linear narrative and you have to have pretty much read all of it to understand what's going on. It's worth it, though. Fantasy at its best.

5. Butterfly by Dean Trippe (a.k.a. dryponder) I don't think anyone is surprised considering how I've been RAMMING THIS COMIC DOWN YOUR THROATS recently.

This comics is an incredibly cute parody of the DCU. It centers on Butterfly, who is Birdie's sidekick who is Knight-Bat's sidekick. I think you can all tell who we're talking about here. It's hilarious while still being sweet and kid-friendly. I love it to death.
