On the Seventh Day of Christmas...

Jan 02, 2012 00:16

I have not written much here because I spent an inordinate amount of time during Christmas break away from my computer, reading, baking, going out with friends... but it still wasn't enough. I'm supposed to go back to school tomorrow and I can't believe it. Just can't believe it. Got a new calender for 2012 (I was torn between getting a calender of European Castles and a calender for Castle the TV Cop drama -- I got the former, I have never really been into fan calenders) and have it hung up. Before I retired my Zodiac calender (which is so very beautiful it hurts to put it away) I looked over it again, just for the memories.
That Zodiac calender, done by Stephanie Pui-Min Law , was a surprising buy for me. I hadn't planned exactly on getting a calender for my room for 2011; after all, the first five months would be in Paris. But I saw this calender in a bookstore and had to buy it. I follow the artist online, and I knew the chance to own her art was too good to pass up.
It turned out to be one of the best purchases I made at that time! I brought it with me to Paris, determined to enjoy it. It was the biggest decoration I brought into my room, and just having it right there over my computer brightened my mood so much.
And, of course, I wrote on it a lot. I looked over the writing from when I was in Paris to the summertime -- it was jam-packed! Hardly a week went by in Paris without a note about an appointment, assignment, meetup with my friend, a visiting friend from abroad, or mention of my own journeys. In the summer it hardly let up -- driving lessons, lunches out, parties, due dates for big hefty books -- they all piled up. No wonder I feel exhausted -- this has been a very tiring year!
From September to November, I wrote in nothing at all -- I was at school then, and I didn't bring the Zodiac calender to my dorm room. But I still remember what a busy, exhausting semester this has been.
Fact is, although I'm ready for 2012, I wish Christmas break could be twice as long. To quote Calvin, "there's never enough time to do all the nothing you want."

New Books Acquired: 28. *whistles* One book was literally acquired the 31st of December, when my Dad and I attended the bookstore where I bought my first Tarot deck. That was its going out of business (for now) sale.
