Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you, They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
(Ding-dong merrily on high, the meme is never ending)
I got five items from
sea_thoughts, so off we go!
Lit chick
Lebanon
Paris
Harry Potter
Tarot
Lit chick: As opposed to "Chick Lit," (bah), I guess that this term means a hip young woman who loves literature, to differ from the image of a stodgy, stuffy librarian as the only kind of person who appreciates good books. And I will gladly admit myself to be one such! Sometimes I worry that my taste in literature is a bit juvenile -- I got very excited when I found articles applying the critical theories I've been studying all semester to L. M. Montgomery, and I will admit, the books I most love to read and reread are fantasy and young adult books -- but when I'm in the company of fellow lit lovers, I can forget that, because what's most important is to love books on their own terms.
Lebanon:The land I've never been to, though I've been to its near neighbor, Egypt. The land that taught the French everything they know about cooking and kissing, and probably a bit of life philosophy too. I hope that maybe I'll go there next summer; in the meantime I've never been.
Paris: I lived there for five months, five months of very mixed feelings but now my heart is turning again towards Paris. I was lost often, confused many times, and hated going to school there. But at the same time, it's a wonderful place to live when you commit to make every day different. You almost can't move for the breathtaking cathedrals all around you; everywhere there's wonderful food and restaurants, the parks and bookstores loan the city character, and of course the Louvre sits in the center, letting the rest of the city orbit around it. Let the Eiffel Tower feel it's the sun of Paris -- it's new. Every neighborhood has its distinct character, and every street has a personality. There, I'm done. I'm nostalgic for the place, expensive and crowded and unsanitary as it is!
Harry Potter: And I thought Paris was a loaded subject... Oh, Harry Potter. I owe so much to this series, so much to the fandom and what it gave to me, and how it helped me to grow. I'm currently writing my paper in the major on Harry Potter fanfiction, in fact. Sometimes I kind of wonder if the love of the fanfiction at times surpassed my love of the original books. I haven't reread them in ages and ages... And anyone who's talked to me about it probably knows my extreme ambivalence on the series relating to the seventh book. In fact, I'm prone nowadays to be much more critical and discerning of the series as a whole, but don't get me wrong: at the heart of it is love. These books, for better or for worse, are a part of me. And I will never rest until I figure out exactly what is wrong with it all, and can bring myself to forgive them.
Tarot: Wheeeee! Everything on this list is an exciting idea for me, but Tarot is especially exciting. I started studying Tarot in December of my Freshman year, so this is the third anniversary of my studies. I really love looking at different decks and looking to find elements of the tarot story in other aspects of literature and everyday life. My own Tarot deck is based on the artwork of Walter Crane, and while I do love it, there are some cards that don't sit perfectly with me -- sometimes the image chosen for the card doesn't work, or the editing on the image could have used some more sprucing, but it's still a beautiful deck and I feel that it fits me very well. Also, see my user icon for this post ;-). I think my personal favorite cards are the Empress, Strength, Temperance, and the Star. The one I spend the most time trying to figure out is the Hanged Man. In my own deck I love the execution of the Fool, the World, Strength, and Death.
So post in response, asking for a list, and I'll give you one!
