I just read in the December 2005 Locus that Charlaine Harris has sold the TV rights to her Sookie Stackhouse series. The pilot will be produced for HBO. Sounds interesting, though it might be a bit too reminiscent of Buffy.

And then there is the news that Studio Ghibli will make an adaptation of Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea. The film will apparently be directed by Hayao Miazaki's son Goro Miyazaki. I have high hopes for it, since Ghibli's films have been consistently quality productions. What raises my hopes even more is the fact that the dragon in the poster up at Studio Ghibli's website looks FABULOUS! I just hope their adaptation of the story lives up to the imagery. In any case, it can never be as bad as the recent miniseries was...
