Paap & Deewaar (old)

Paap was a pretty good remake of The Witness. However, the thing that stayed in my most was skillful they were in having reasons for John Abraham to go around with half-naked :D!

Seriously though, one thing I noted about the film was that the sophisticated, experienced city man was only gazing longingly after his lady love, while this unsophisticated, innocent, inexperienced village girl was having all these highly erotic, very steamy day-dreams about the said police officer... Indian double-standard at work or was this movie directed at a female audience, who would get a kick out of the scenes in it? I doubt it, but that's how it worked in my Western female mind.

The shooting scenes were really awful, since none of the actors seemed to be able to handle their gun. They were all shaking uncontrollably, even when they were pretending to shoot them...

Deewaar (old) was a great film. Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor had great roles, but their parents were such wimps. Their father deserted his family after publicly shaming his honour. He just left his family to deal with his failure. What a loser!!!

The mother was the usual martyred mother type, who is devatated by the loss of his husband. She does her utmost to help the survival of her sons, but when push comes to shove, she chooses the path of righteousness.

Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor were great as brothers, and the outcome was really tragic. Still, the only time I had tears in my eyes was when Anita, Amitabh's pregnant girlfriend, died, and he wanted to revenge it, which was one of the ultimate reasons for his destiny.

I *really* like young Amitabh!!! I must seek out more of his older films!
