Everyone who likes Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan books should read
eolianbeck and
sahiya's novel-length Vorkosiverse story
A Deeper Season immediately! It was really really good and I thought they captured Bujold's tone and characters amazingly well.
What might deter some people from reading it, is that it's an AU slashfic (PG-13) where the story diverges from canon during and after Memory (short version: there is no Laisa). I saw this
recommended by
jadelennox and because I'm a great fan of Bujold's books and she gave it such high marks I decided to check it out.
After just finishing it, I completely agree with her that after you get over the initial amazement (how could this pairing ever work out?!) and fall into the story, it reads almost like something Bujold could have written herself. And they somehow manage to make it work. And keep you glued to the computer screen in order to finish the story.
My only very minor quibble was that I don't think Miles would ever call Count Piotr Gran'Da or Aral Da, but that is only a very minor annoyance in an otherwise extremely well constructed story.
Go read it! Highly recommended! I'm also very excited about the information that they are already planning to write a sequel to this story.
I want more of (this) Ivan, this Cordelia, this Gregor. More Vorkosigan stories, period.
