Of course I totally failed to post about being about to go to WisCon, let alone being at WisCon, but, as in many other respects, this year's WisCon trip was sort of a rough draft for all future WisCon trips, of which I very much hope there will be many. I felt instantly and entirely at home at WisCon, especially at the many official parties serving free drinks.
There was also a wonderful official partie not serving free drinks--
elisem's Haiku Earring Party, where I wrote a haiku (with real-time recursive editing by
iuliamentis) to win Julie a pair of earrings.
They were called "The Nyxie's Revenge," and were made of clear and ice-blue beads, and earlier that day I had heard David Levine read a story in which a nyxie was described as a stretch of water as an attitude--that nyxie in particular inhabiting the u-bend in a basement drain, and so the haiku ultimately ran as follows:
Through winter she plots,
Ice-bound with grit and garbage,
Then the basement flood.
