I didn't know this vid before, I decided to check it because of your commentary. Wow. (and here's the reason I'd never write commentary, words running away from me:)). Thanks.
Thank you so much for participating and writing this commentary up. I love this vid to itty bitty pieces, and attempting to articulate why or write a breakdown of the vid for me would have been next to impossible; every time I watch it I just end up thinking "YES. THIS."
Oh, thank you so much! It's great to hear that the commentary resonates for others as well. I greatly enjoyed writing it and exploring the vid, but there's always that 'is this just me?' voice in your head. ;)
I look forward to catching up on other people's commentaries once mine are complete (soon!)--seems like this challenge round is a big success! Congrats!
Oh, thank you! And yes, its a very heavy, layered vid! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the commentary. It was a great joy to write but I find writing commentaries is so personal, because it's all about my personal attachment to the vid and my journey with the vid and I'm never sure how well that's going to translate to other people. So thanks heaps for the feedback that it was readable! :)
Eee, thank you so much for the awesome commentary!! You did an amazing job, just as I knew you would. :D Seriously, your ability to read vids is frightening. In a good way. ;) I was especially curious to see what you'd say in light of your distaste for the character. Your hatred for him doesn't really come through, if you can believe that. ;)
Also, I hadn't ever seen a character study vid of Adama and this seemed like a big oversight given that BSG is a highly vidded show and Adama is one of the principle leads. I know right? And almost everything that was out there was an Adama/Roslin vid. I don't have anything against the ship, but he's his own character, you know?
I apologise in advance for talking about Lee so much! Please all feel free to LOL at how I interpret the vid as Really All About Lee. LOL! I actually really appreciate all the insights into Lee here, since they were spot-on and it saves me from having to go into a ton of detail during my own commentary. The "one not on the list" lyric tie in particular is one of my

Can vid-reading be my super power? I would like that! :p
Your hatred for him doesn't really come through, if you can believe that. ;) Hahaha, well I did try! But actually that's why I was so keen to write a commentary for this vid... because while watching this vid I don't feel my usual frustrations. I see reflections of them but it's like revolving a prism and seeing the show and character from a different perspective. It's hard to fight the sympathy of the vision inherent in the vid! Partly because it's not a whitewashing of the character, it does show Adama's own awareness of the places which are problem spots in his emotional landscape.
The "one not on the list" lyric tie in particular is one of my favorites Yay! I love it so much, I'm glad it's one of your favourites, it shows in the beautiful shot you clip to it

It's fascinating to see this vid detailed from the perspective of a fandom insider - and particularly from one who has never really sympathized with Adama. It almost feels like seeing the vid for the first time, which is an awesome feeling. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this. I certainly feel like I have a different type of appreciation for 45 after reading it.
Yeah, seriously, I can't stress enough how much I hate Adama! LOL. ;) But this vid has a LOT to say in terms of character meta so it overcomes that obstacle. It's the most articulate and convincing exploration of the character I've ever seen put together--in visuals or prose, and that is a total rarity since I usually find prose meta to be more effective. But I'm a sucker for vids that take me inside a character's point of view and watching this vid I felt like I 'got' Adama for the first time ever. Whereas usually when people talk about him, I find I only see how radically different we are in some fundamental values. I used to rewatch this vid when I was having ragefits against him while watching the show, so I could tone down my bias for my meta. /confession
Thanks so much for the feedback! I couldn't have hoped for a better response to the commentary! :)
