cosmic birthday present

So a couple of months ago, on a German-avoiding whim, I decided to enter all the online contests for every magazine I could think of. That ended up being all of three magazines- Marie Claire, Cosmo, and Glamour. My mom would have been proud, she faithfully enters dozens of contests on a daily basis (and enters me for them as well, bless her heart). Unlike mom, this turned out to be a one-time thing.

Lo and behold, the day before my birthday I get a phone call from New York. Turns out I actually won something! I won the July Marie Claire Cover Look contest. The magazine sent me paperwork to sign and get notarized in order to receive the award. Turns out the award is a year's supply of ThermaSilk products (supposedly valued at $23) and a year's supply of Lancome products (supposedly valued at $306). So my prize is worth just about $330. Those who know me well know how happy I am when I get anything free, so you can imagine how excited I am. I'm taking it as a special birthday present from the universe. Thank you, universe (which includes all of you, since all y'all reside in said universe).

Today I got the paperwork notarized, luckily for free by Renata, who works in the reference department at the library. I also got it all mailed off to NY, and now I just get to sit back and wait. Good thing classes are starting soon, because I'm not the most patient of souls...
