sooooo....

A quiet, dark train overnight from Miramichi to Montreal - probably some champagne or at least a box of wine, two exhausted but incredibly happy young people who get to close the door on the world and just enjoy the journey, being with each other. The end of one crazy year. The festive mood of New Year's Eve on the train, a traveling party. Doesn't it sound awesome?

It does. And I was so excited for it. My classmates were even asking me about it today, right before my presentation. And then I got home

And the phone rang.

And fucking Via Rail has CANCELLED the Dec. 31st train because it expects low traffic volumes.

FUCK YOU VIA RAIL, FUCK YOU. I love the train but what the fuck is this. They've effing ruined it. I don't want to fly to Montreal. I don't want to drive to Moncton and pay to leave the car in the lot and wait in a line and be scared during take off and have horribly painful inner ears and not have our booze on board and not have a cozy little room to ourselves and then land far away from our hotel and have to get a taxi or a shuttle into the city. I don't want to leave the next day, on Jan. 1st, and get to spend only ONE NIGHT at our hotel on our effing honeymoon.

My fiance is starting his surgery rotation on Monday January 5th and this is not negotiable. Our honeymoon has a defined ending and now fucking Via Rail has decided to truncate its beginning too.

FUCK YOU VIA RAIL I AM SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW AND THEY ARE GONNA EFFING PAY FOR THIS, I'm taking this to Consumerist, I'm taking this to the papers, I'm taking this everywhere because FUCK YOU GUYS, you just ruined my effing honeymoon. Why let people book and spend thousands on tickets if you were just going to cancel it?!! We've had our tickets since August and our hotel room - at the hotel DIRECTLY ABOVE THE TRAIN STATION -since then as well.

GOD I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW. FUCCCCCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: I just checked the site, hoping that if a ton of people bought Dec. 31 train tickets perhaps they would HAVE to run it, but they've already taken the option off the online booking. WELL FUCKING DUH. IF you are going to keep people from booking that night and cancel it over 2 months in advance, OF COURSE THERE WILL BE LOW TRAFFIC. Assholes. It sounds like they made their minds up about it for a different reason and are just trying to justify it. I would be curious to know if the train has run on N.Y.E. in the past. I'm sure it has.
