More Stuff
* Has anyone else seen The Jane Austen Book Club? I watched it last night and I was quite pleasantly surprised. I had dismissed it as yet another thing cashing in on the recent Austen-mania. Though the thing that most excited me was
a character that was a scifi fan and went to scifi conventions and was not portrayed as the typical media stereotype of a fan as some completely socially awkward freak who lives in they're parents basement. It was so refreshing to see character that was a scifi geek and yet 'normal'.
It was also great to see the men in the movie reading and enjoying Austen. It reminded me in high school when we had to read Pride and Prejudice. All of the guys in class were whining about it because they didn't want to read some 'chick book', but as they started reading they were sucked in and couldn't put it down. They really got wound up in the class discussions too. It really irks me that people dismiss things just because they don't fit the narrowly defined parameters of what they think fits into their type. I know I do it too at times, but some of my most beloved books and movies are ones that I had at first passed over as not being my thing.
* I think I may have to scrap my original idea for my remix fic because I think it would be more of a prequel rather than a remix because nothing of the plot of the original story would remain. I have a back up idea, but it isn't as fully formed as my original. I'll probably write it at some point anyway because it's still sort of eating my brain.
* Do you ever think that when your mp3 player is set at 'random', it really doesn't play songs at random? There are some songs I hear over and over and others never hear. Truly my mp3 player is obsessed with The Eagles, because it plays at least one Eagles song an hour. I have U2's entire catalog but I rarely ever hear a U2 song. WTF?
