Weekend recap and my new found love of House

Nov 13, 2006 14:30

Despite the three day weekend I really didn't anything I planned to do done. Sorry
emosweet . I didn't get a chance write more than a paragraph or two on the next chapter.

I rediscovered my bead stash and actually managed to make two necklaces and two sets of earrings. I haven't really made anything in quite a long time. Maybe five or six years. I got inspired after seeing some of the stuff made by the lady that owns The Tea Room. She has these great fresh water pearl necklaces that are strung on leather instead of silk or nylon. I ran across some fine leather cord at Michael's the other day so I decided to give it a try with some beads I already had. They turned out fairly well for not having done any knotting in a while. I discovered that the stylus to my pda makes a really good aul and that cats are not the most helpful companions when trying to work with beads. One of necklaces is quite a bit shorter than originally planned because Kaylee decided to gnaw on the the leather while I wasn't looking for half a second.

Saturday night I went to a party at a friend's gallery downtown, AT Hun. Chuck's a big Monty Python fan as you can tell. It was a 1920s themed party. Lots of people in spats and fringe. I had a dress that was perfect. 20s clothes usually look good on me because I have virtually no figure. I curled up my hair with the tiny sponge rollers. I think it turned out particularly well. I'll post a pic when I get them developed. Chuck was rather impressed and wants to paint me in that outfit. I used to pose for him in college and my ego always enjoys being immortalized in paint.

So I started watching House. It's in season 3 now and I hate not knowing backstory. I acquired season 1 and have had marathon House watching sessions this past week. That's mainly why I didn't get anything done.  I usually don't like hospital shows, but the characters are so well developed. While they do have a wacky medical issue of the week, there's tons of character progression and development. It's the same reason I'll  watch Bones and not the myriad of the CSIs. The characters are much more fascinating then whatever strange matter they're investigating, Fox seems to do a good job with character driven shows like that. Not just the regular Fox, but FX as well. The Shield, Rescue Me, and Nip/Tuck are all really more about the characters than their professions.

Anyway, the reasons I love House.

1. Um, House himself. Why is it I always really like these rough snarky damaged type of characters?  I've got a list about a mile long and they're almost always these types of people.

2. Wilson. He really surprised me. I had Wilson as a boy scout, mainly because he's so innocent looking. But he's apparently the hospital's top womanizer. I really love him because he's Barney to House's Fred. Wilson'll tell him like it is, but ends up getting dragged along with by whatever crazy scheme House comes up with. I bet slashers have a ball with them.

3. Cuddy. Partly because I used to have a cat named Cuddy. Actually, her name was Cuddles which is what you get when you let a four year old name a cat.  Her personality was actually a lot like Doctor Cuddy's. Cuddy is like one of those great characters from the Forties, y'know those tough brassy, sexy women played by Rosalind Russell, Ava Gardner, or Bette Davis. I love the banter she has with House. It's like David and Maddie in Moonlighting or Rosalind Russell and Carey Grant in His Girl Friday. House and Cuddy are so doing it.

4. House's Team. They're like the Archie Goodwin to House's Nero Wolfe. They do the leg work while House sits in his office and makes these genius leaps of logic. Foreman, Chase, and Cameron are all great characters in they're own way. Cameron bugs me the most. She's like a simpering puppy begging for House's attention. She's very manipulative in a deceptively innocent way. I mean who the hell blackmails their boss into going on a date with them?

So
emosweetand I were talking and I said I'd post some of my art work. Most of my portfolio is on disks at my parent's house, but I did have some stuff on my hard drive that I did when I was deluded enough to think I was good enough or dedicated enough  to do comic work. There's a couple of crappy sketches and a couple of completed pieces I'm actually kind of proud of.  I'll post my some of my 'real' art when I find those disks and slides. In the mean time here's the link: http://pics.livejournal.com/vickyocean/

Hopefully I can get some stuff written between now and when I finish aquiring season two of House, because my ficathon deadlines are coming up.
