what makes sense about the rhetoric of the right?
Ok, I am simply confused. I THINK I speak English, I even think I understand the lauguage when others speak it. I also think that, for the most part, I understand logic so why is it I can't understand a darn bit of the extreme rights' reasoning process.
Now here is what happened today. For some bizarre reason, I went to one of my contacts' websites and checked some previous posts. Now, in my defense, the guy who's site I went to is a progressive/liberal. Same lauguage, I dig his posts. No problem. But it didn't end there!!
You see somebody had responded to this perfectly understandable, logical, at least to me, thesis that the GOP is NOT the friend of the Gay and Lesbian Community. Now I will defend to the death the right of a Gay man, or Lesbian woman to be a Republican if he or she feels the urge. I DONT however, understand it. It is a major case of "him or her from Mars, me from Venus" or whatever. Might as well be seperate planets cuz I dont get it.
Well, his assertion is basically that the Democrats and the liberals are ROBBING him. He earned his money and by jove he intends to keep it. Nope he aint gonna sit back and let those horrible liberals take his money from him!!
Now here is where I went wrong. I thought that this man might understand logic. So I responded saying 1. I am proud to be able to pay taxes because the taxes gets us the things that we need to be able to function as a decent society...roads, schools etc. 2. If he didnt want to pay taxes perhaps he could stay off the roads, not send his kids to school and forget about police and fire services. I also suggested (ok, ok, so maybe I was being a bit of a smart ass here) that I suspected that was more of a risk that he really wanted to take.
Now his response was that THAT was still robbing him. So apparently, the extreme right thinks that we don't even need a police force? A fire department? Or maybe we should, each of us, hire our own police and fire force. I gave up at that point, two passes on another persons blog is enough and I doubt any kind of logic would have any effect anyway.
I am sorry, I simply dont understand. But I strongly suspect that some people are being hightly hypocritcal, and down right non-sensical in their insistance on their particular hatred of what they see as the horrors of government. But would these same people REALLY want to live in the sort of society their ideology would create? I think not. But then, while I would like to be able to test that theory, I cant, because I DON'T want that kind of society for ME!!!
