Fundred Project

Jun 18, 2008 14:15

When I was in NOLA at the National Art Educators' Conference, Mel Chin showed up at one of the breakout sessions I attended. He talked about his Fundred project. After Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans, Mel moved there to make art that addresses quality of life for people who live in the city. My students were already familiar with his work from the Art21 series. Here's the bundle of conceptual "fundred dollar bills" that they produced this week:

It worked out so that exactly 99 students each made a bill. Then I made one for an even hundred.
Now's the fun part. I get to send it to the top secret pickup location, and have it sent to Washington, DC.
For my multitudes of regular readers: you don't have to be a school teacher or student to participate in this. If you want to send a Fundred Dollar Bill to me, send it to:

Vicki Barkley
South Gate High School
3351 Firestone Blvd.
South Gate, CA 90280

I'll send your bill along with the ones my students made.
