When Richard and de Carabas seem done with Jessica and return home, they'll find Ali in her comfortable room in the basement, humming softly along with the music while she drops cracked ice into glasses. A bottle of ginger beer and another of rum sit nearby, waiting.

Bermuda was wonderful--a morning at the farmer's market there, and visiting the most beautiful caves I've ever seen after lunch--but it's good to be home. I was starting to feel...weird...being away. I think next time we'll have to go for a shorter trip ( Read more... )
