"Does it make you uncomfortable?"

"Just wondering how I'd managed to overlook it," he replies. "And then I remembered what I had just said. I've met a man with a wooden leg. A metal arm isn't too far a stretch."

"It's just my hand." She tugs up the sleeve of her sweater, revealing the neat joining of flesh and metal. Then she pulls it down again. "If it bothers you I can put on gloves."

Actually, he's rather interested in the mechanics. He's rather handy with gears and wheels. So he shakes his head. "Do you mind if I take a closer look?" he asks. "How does it work?"

She shrugs a bit, fishing a small Swiss army knife from her pocket so she can take some of the plates off her hand. If he's curious, she'll show him the clockwork gears inside, it's all the same to her. "I didn't build it, a doctor did. I don't really know how it works. I just know to clean and oil it sometimes, and go back if it stops working."
