When Bryan offered me his car a few months ago, I did initially hesitate just a little bit. That's because I knew that having a used car means that you have to pour money into unexpected repairs every so often. I still accepted it. I knew that I would need to eventually get the windshield replaced, but I had been putting that off until I paid down my credit card bill. (It's not real bad, but I don't want it to get any worse.) I was hoping that I wouldn't have any unexpected repairs to deal with until some time next year. Unfortunately, that was just a little too much to hope for. I had to take Zephyr into the shop today.
I recently learned that the brakes are worn out and the pads and rotors need to be replaced. As soon as my uncle borrowed my car, that was the first thing he started nagging me about. He went so far as to take it to a couple different places to get it looked at. The front brakes need it more than the rear ones. I know from the brake work I had done on my Volvo that these things are expensive. They get even more expensive if they are ignored and put off too long.
The brakes didn't feel bad, but the inspection said otherwise. In this case, it was the front ones that needed the work. (The rear ones can go for a while as they are.) I drove her in this morning and they fixed her right up. I hadn't been to this repair shop in two years, but they still recognized me. (I bet they were glad to see me too!)
That was the fastest I've spent $400 in a long time. I wonder how long I can put off the windshield fix.
