Reading furniture

So, ten and a bit years ago my extension english one teacher introduced myself, and my other classmates to a book called A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel and in case you haven't realised this yet it became one of my favourite books everOne of the chapters in it deals with the kind of furniture used by readers over the time. I prefer to lie down to read. Ideally, on my left side, with my head up on a pillow. Unfortunately, I usually end up sitting up to read, because I do most of my reading at work or during breakfast or on public transport, so I'll be sitting on a chair or seat during those times. And then I still sometimes find myself staring longingly at the floor, wanting to lie down. XD

Well, I like the Chesterfield idea but what stops you from having a complimentary (yes, I meant that and not completementary) armchair to curl up in? My preferred chair for reading is an armchair which I sit in, at the beginning like you describe, but after ten or fifteen minutes my knees tilt to one side against an arm and the book follows accordingly.

Otherwise, my style is old. I like sit in an armchair to put my feet up on a stool, or sit in a recliner with the book propped on my lap.

I sit on a comfy armchair, often with one leg over an arm, or at the table if I'm reading while eating a meal, but the biggest innovation for me is ( my book seat )

These days I do most of my reading on the train, so I'm kinda stuck with being squished up against the window.

Otherwise I'm either in bed, flat on my back with a couple of pillows (or if Mr DM is not in bed too I nick all of his pillows as well so I'm well propped up).

However, not long before we left Cairns I discovered the pleasure of lying on my black leather 2-seater sofa and having a good read. It reminded me of the gorgeous chintzy over-stuffed 2-seater sofa my mum and dad inherited from an ancestor which stayed with us only briefly because we already had way too much furniture, and which I would have loved to sneak up into my bedroom and am now cursing that I didn't.

Not sure where that sofa is going to be put in the new house... many plans are afoot and much measuring being done to be able to fit our stuff in a smaller house than we had before! Sadly I know it won't fit in the room that is going to be my study :(
