The first thing I ever wanted to be, after an astronaut and the president, was a national park ranger. Basically the best job ever. For those of you who aren't from the US, the federal government has set aside lots of areas of land with a total area larger than all of Great Britain (holy shit). Generally speaking you've got your historical-type parks, like Gettysburg, and your awesome land-form/environmental preservation parks, like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Rangers work at the parks and lead tours, rescue stupid people from bears, do trail maintenance, sell tickets, do research, and basically whatever they can get funding for. Imagine waking up and going to work here:
Denali National Park in Alaska.
And you get to be outside all the time and meet lots of cool people (and really obnoxious people but whatever). I actually really, really want to do this but sadly budget cuts aren't doing the Park Service any favors. But it'd still be really cool even if it was only for a summer and to be honest, I'd probably do it for free as long as I got food and housing.
Plus you get to wear some of the ugliest colors ever, which I didn't particularly care about when I was nine and to be honest, they still don't really bother me.
I'm on a horse.
