Beyond Belief : My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape
by Jenna Miscavige Hill
with Lisa Pulitzer

Jenna was in Scientology since she was born. Her parents were in the elite Sea Org and it was her dream to be just like them. Even when her parents pulled away from Scientology, she still wanted to stay and continue. But eventually, the years of abuse wore her down and she finally left, too.

This book is about her life in the various places of Scientology church. In the very beginning she lived with her parents but then at about seven or eight years old she was separated from them, only seeing them briefly on the weekends, if that. It was about her journey through the different testings and trials set up for Scientology members. It was interesting to see how different the public version of Scientology and the private day to day views of Scientology are completely different. Even she wondered about the celebrities in Scientology getting such different treatment from the unknown individuals in it.

With this book and the other two I read about people getting out of religions, I noticed a theme. While some of the core ideals may be good, the way they are instituted is bad. There is a big emphasis on not letting people think for themselves, punishing people who question (even intelligently), and culling whoever they think is bad.
