Glorious

Despite being a four day con, AFest felt like it wasn't long enough. Rain (Sometimes bringing us to a standstill. Rain fell in sheets this summer and that weekend was no exception.) kept Jason and I out of the city until the evening. We missed the Dealer's Room as usual, but ran into the Afriendgers and Paul's group outside of registration. Jason's squad unloaded the car while I walked around the Dealer's Room with the Afriendgers. The party winded down, we set up the room, and I met up with Grace. She was cosplaying as Aya Brea from Parasite Eve. :') We drank, chatted, took some photos, and then I get a notification that Jason and his group got kicked out of the room. o_o

I met up with them and it was agreed that Preston (Hunter?) ruined it for everyone. He was soft banned from the room, I cleared up the situation with security (apparently we were placed right next to a con staff room), Grace went to bed, and there was a little more shenanigans before I discovered that Megan was still awake! We met up for ice cream, running into Dice and Pennifer (the last I would see of them that weekend, unfortunately), and getting kind of Existential with it. It was really nice to touch base with her, though. <3

The next day was a little unexpected with Kayla coming to hang out! She hadn't been to a con in such a long time, so we ended up walking the dealer's room together with Grace (after Grace and I had awful kid beer) before I shortly punked out on them to go to the Star Wars shoot. Matt was generally over, but while talking to someone who I remember seeing from the Death Note days, I know that not all connections are meant to be. Met back up with Kayla, Jason, and Grace to eat before walking Kayla to her car. Some (PJ) Overwatch later, it was time for the Afriendgers to assemble.

Because of Robert going off to college, this would be his last hurrah for a while. Unfortunately, he wasn't really feeling the party, so we pulled away from the group to talk real and then the realness came with Bree's boyfriend turning heel on her. Grace and I closed out the night (while Robert was switching the bedsheets and Chelsea was in her drunk cave) and we'll see what's in the future for the Afriendgers at cons.

The lame part about the con not being on Labor Day weekend is that a lot of people bug out on Sunday. Met Grace for lunch and we ganked a gym before she headed to judging. The Velvet Taco hype ended up being built, so while Grace was doing cosplay judging stuff, Megan and I went. We were satisfied (I forget what was delicious...maybe the fish taco?) but there was onion snafus, so it sorta put a damper on things. Megan was heading out, so she dropped me off back at the hotel and I killed a little time (unfortunately missing Diana and Jen) before going to the cosplay show. Grace did better than TnT and it was a super cool venue. We met up after the show and begun the night of Cards Against Humanity and drinking with Sabra and company.

It always means a lot to me to be safe in a group of girls. We laughed and drank and met new friends and ended up helping Jason out since he wasn't feeling well, even if that meant climbing and descending stairs a few times. Grace made an interesting drink that tasted like Hawaiian Punch thanks to Red Viniq. This would be her downfall a few hours later, giving her a lousy hangover.

We walked the dealer's room, I bought my A-Kon badge (thumbs down for being in Fort Worth now), said good byes to everyone, and Jason and I hit the road. We were all pretty tired, including Grace who had a five hour drive home. She stopped at my apartment on the way back and we slept for a few hours before I had to go work and she continued the drive home. The next stop was PAX.

But there were fun things between AFest and then. Ricky had his birthday dinner at Chelino's and some beer messed me up, because I threw up pretty hard the next morning. Maybe I just need to stop with low point beer. Hanging out with Ricky is a little few and far between these days, with all of the kids. But they are doing well in their sports and growing up, so I'm happy for their family.
