Well there are plenty of characters of talent and personality around. But ya know, why should an artist appear fully formed with their first album? Rihanna has came on leaps and bounds over her three albums. Adele is 19 and will have been finding a sound at the school, and I've no doubt that will continue to develop. Adele is so promoted because she is in the Amy mould, she's not in the Amy mould because a record company made her that way. It's what she already was. She's been gigging for ages and those shows are her and her guitar. The spectacle of the Brits is something she obviously isn't used to. I don't see why it's so bad for her to get used to it.

It's no worse than 40 years ago with the Hit Factory and Motown and countless Beatles imitators and so on. It's the outcome that matters, not how they got there. It's not even as if you can claim that these people are stifling 'genuine talent' (which presumably means artists who never went to Brit School or a tv show). Arctic Monkeys were up there winning two awards and poking fun at the Brit School.
